Established in 2018, The Anchor Foundation is a public charitable trust dedicated to supporting individuals and communities through nutrition assistance, healthcare support, rehabilitation activities, humanitarian initiatives, and volunteer-led welfare programs.
The foundation emerged from a simple yet powerful observation. Across many communities, there were individuals and families struggling to access basic necessities, healthcare support, and timely assistance during difficult circumstances. These realities highlighted the need for organized community participation and meaningful social action.
The period between 2020 and 2022 further reinforced this need. As the COVID-19 pandemic affected thousands of families, Founder Trustee Sachin Kanifnath Sonawane witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by patients, senior citizens, daily wage earners, and economically vulnerable households. During this period, he dedicated significant personal time, financial resources, and physical efforts toward supporting those in need.
From arranging food supplies and essential items for affected families to assisting individuals seeking medical support, hospital admissions, medicines, and emergency requirements, numerous efforts were undertaken to provide help during one of the most challenging periods faced by society in recent times. Long hours were spent coordinating assistance, connecting people with available resources, supporting hospital-related requirements, and responding to urgent community needs whenever possible.
These experiences strengthened the belief that community welfare requires collective participation, compassion, and action. What began as a desire to help individuals during difficult times gradually evolved into a broader mission to create a platform capable of supporting communities through organized welfare initiatives.
Today, The Anchor Foundation continues its efforts through nutrition programs, healthcare initiatives, rehabilitation support, humanitarian assistance, community welfare activities, and volunteer participation. Every initiative reflects the belief that meaningful change becomes possible when individuals come together to support one another with compassion, responsibility, and a shared sense of humanity.
Through the support of volunteers, donors, professionals, and community members, the foundation continues working toward a future where assistance reaches those who need it most and where every contribution creates a positive impact on lives and communities.

To support communities through nutrition assistance, healthcare initiatives, rehabilitation activities, and humanitarian programs that improve quality of life and create meaningful social impact.

To build accessible support systems through organized community initiatives, volunteer participation, and welfare-focused programs that address essential social needs and contribute toward stronger communities.
Hard times come unexpectedly, and sometimes they change the way we see life forever.
For me, that moment came on 9 October 2017, when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Watching someone you love go through the pain of treatment is an experience that is difficult to put into words. While my family was facing this battle, I began noticing the many patients and families around Tata Memorial Hospital who were going through struggles of their own.
When the experience became personal, I began looking at the suffering around me differently. I saw families dealing with medical challenges, financial difficulties, exhaustion and even the basic concern of having a meal. A thought began to stay with me: if we could ease even a small part of someone’s suffering, their difficult days could become a little easier.
That thought became the beginning of a larger responsibility.
Together with my team, I started providing meals to cancer patients and their families at Tata Memorial Hospital. What began with our own resources gradually became a regular effort. Every time the food reached someone who had been waiting for it, the relief on their face reminded us why we had started. Those moments taught us that giving is also a way of healing ourselves.
I call this the joy of giving.
With my background in social work and the experience of seeing families struggle through cancer treatment, I felt that this effort could become something larger. This led to the formation of The Anchor Foundation, with a vision to work across nutrition assistance, health support, rehabilitation and humanitarian initiatives.
I believe that difficult experiences can give us a deeper understanding of what others may be going through. My mother’s illness changed my life, but it also opened my eyes to the struggles of many other families. I did not want their difficulties to remain unseen or unanswered.
The Anchor Foundation is our effort to turn a deeply personal experience into a larger act of care, so that people facing hardship can find a meal, a helping hand and the feeling that someone is standing beside them.
